Why does he now txt saying i want 2 be friends?

My bf of 3 months told me on xmas eve that he didnt want a relationship just fun, so i told him i wouldnt be his tart.I was shocked that he even said it, so i was upset all day xmas day. Then at 10pm he txt and said that he wanted to be friends??? Whats going on in his head? He txt me saying Merry Xmas at 10pm that he want sto be friends...... Why would he even want to be friends or think i would after what he said???
