Do you think atticus finch is a civil rights activist or racial moderate?

i have to do an essay for to kill a mockingbird and this is the question. im having a hard time arguing because i dont know what an activist or racial moderate is. i mean i know the basic meaning but i need someone to elaborate and give me an example so i can full understand it.
